A growing number of truckers are installing solar panels for regular, routine battery maintenance — it’s becoming a standard way to keep a truck’s electrical system topped off.
Once installed, panels collect sunlight and convert it into usable electricity for the vehicle — power you can then use to run appliances, lights, and sockets in the cab.
Start with your total daily energy consumption in watt-hours and divide by 350 to estimate how many 100-watt panels you need — for example, 1,755 watt-hours a day calls for about five 100-watt panels. From there, battery storage and module size are sized around how long you need to run without direct sunlight.
Commercial panels are sturdy and need very little maintenance, with a lifespan of 15–20 years. Once installed, the electricity they generate is free for the life of the system.
