Maintaining technologies is just as important to a fleet’s bottom line as scheduled preventive maintenance is for trucks as a whole. While fleets routinely implement preventive maintenance programs for systems and components they do not generally give enough consideration to developing a similarly detailed plan for how their technologies will be maintained.

New developments in fleet monitoring and telecommunications during the past few decades have significantly altered how fleets track and manage their drivers and mobile assets.

Much of the trucking industry continues to rely on older onboard technology for mission-critical functions such as electronic logging of driver hours of service. This reliance on legacy systems can hurt reliability and efficiency, particularly with the sunsetting of 3G networks.
