Company hires new business development manager to aid expansion into M2M segment.

Kansas City, Kan. – May 4, 2012 – Velociti Inc., a global provider of technology deployment services headquartered in Kansas City, Kan., announces today that Tammy O’Bannon has joined Velociti as a new Business Development Manager to aid in the company’s expansion. Tammy spent the past 15 years of her career with Verizon Wireless. Much of her time at Verizon was spent with the Data Sales organization and her focus in the past several years was within the transportation vertical and Machine-to-Machine (M2M) segment.

“Tammy’s experience with M2M is a huge asset to Velociti and our Business Development team as we continue to see a rapid increase in M2M deployments,” said Deryk Powell, COO of Velociti Inc. “Our growing partnerships with carriers have been bolstered by Tammy’s expertise. She has really hit the ground running.”

“I’m excited to be a part of the Velociti team,” said Tammy O’Bannon. “It’s a terrific opportunity with a dynamic company and I really wanted to be a part of its continuing growth.”

Velociti’s recent growth includes a 15,000-square-foot expansion of its corporate headquarters in fall 2011 to increase the facility’s staging area and call center for a large project. Since then, several project managers, technicians and additional support staff have been added to the team.

Velociti Featured in Kansas City Business Journal Growth Strategies Article

March 9th, 2012

Kansas City, Kan. – March 9, 2012 – Velociti, Inc., a global provider of technology deployment services headquartered in Kansas City, Kan., was featured in the Kansas City Business Journal with a Growth Strategies Article written by technology reporter Alyson Raletz.

Here is a snippet from the article:

What started as a small technology spinoff within an established Kansas trucking solutions provider more than a decade ago has picked up enough speed to more than double its revenue during the past two years.

Velociti Inc., a full-service wireless technology installer in Kansas City, Kan., jumped from $17.1 million in revenue in 2009 to $35.7 million in 2011 after clinching a multiyear deal with a big-box national retailer. The contract
pushed it to open a new call center and technical support staging site last year, along with hiring 58 temporary employees.

The deal served as the culmination of 15 years of working with tech providers to recommend Velociti to their clients. It actively sought referrals from large companies, which started coming after Velociti spent years proving it could get the job done better and quicker than competitors. Trying to shed the perception that it “merely installed stuff,” Velociti’s track record of quick turnarounds showed companies Velociti not only was a good value on its own, but could help clients yield savings months and sometimes years before the alternatives, Velociti COO Deryk Powell said.

“We help people make more money on what they’ve invested in,” he said. The types of technology Velociti implements helps trucking clients see  significant fuel savings, whether it’s trailer monitoring systems, tire pressure systems or onboard systems that read engine data and communicate with dispatchers.

For example, Velociti deployed an on-board computing system at a 4,500-unit trucking fleet in 2011 for a company that intended to deploy the technology on its own in about 18 months. Velociti handled the project in nine months, and the
fleet realized its savings twice as fast. After nine months of using the systems, the fleet already had seen $1 million in additional savings, Powell said.

Kansas City, Kan. – February 2, 2012 - Velociti Inc., a global provider of technology deployment services headquartered in Kansas City, Kan., has been approved as a technology services provider for E-rate.

The E-rate program is administered by the Schools and Libraries Division (SLD) of the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC). The program was created as part of the Federal Telecommunication Act of 1996 to ensure that all eligible schools and libraries have affordable access to modern telecommunications and information services.

Velociti partners with Horizon Display to deploy kiosks for a first-of-its-kind community sustainability program in Charlotte, NC.

January 17th, 2012

Kansas City, Kan. – January 17, 2012 - Velociti, Inc., a global provider of technology deployment services headquartered in Kansas City, Kan., recently partnered with Horizon Display, a leading touchscreen and digital solutions company, to deploy 64 Interactive Touch Display Kiosks in the uptown business district of Charlotte, NC.  The deployment was part of Envision Charlotte, a program that uses digital grid technologies to display real-time energy data throughout the city. The goal of the initiative is to curb electricity use by as much as 20 percent over the next five years, enough to heat 40,000 homes for one year.

The community of Charlotte, NC will be able to see data about its collective energy usage via these digital displays throughout the uptown area. The hope is that through broader energy consumption awareness, consumers will be prompted to make energy saving decisions to collectively contribute towards the 20% reduction goal for the community.

Velociti, which specializes in deploying a broad range of networking, digital signage and transportation technologies,  was responsible for placement and
installation of all preconfigured hardware and will handle post-installation service on all 64 kiosks.

“Horizon Display has a natural ability to create quality interactive digital experiences” said Jim West, Vice President of Sales for Velociti. “We thoroughly enjoy working with them and see a great future for this dynamic partnership between Velociti and Horizon Display.”

The Horizon Display kiosk design offers an ergonomic experience, that leverages the large display to grab passerby’s attention, and the interactive technology to keep them involved, all with a minimal use of floor space.  Behind the scenes, the kiosk contains a professional grade media server and 4G wireless connectivity, which make the kiosk both powerful and mobile.

“We really get energized when we see the impact our technology can have on others’ businesses and strategies. This kiosk even has an impact on the environment, and we’re proud of that. However, we know this large scale deployment wouldn’t have been possible without the experience of Velociti.  Like any good solution, there must always be a good team involved,” added Matthew Cutone, VP & General Manager for Horizon Display.

“We are very excited to be involved with such a ground-breaking project,” said Deryk Powell, COO of Velociti inc. “We hope to see other major metropolitan areas follow their lead and enact similar programs to benefit our communities in such a positive way.”

Werner outfitting entire trailer fleet with tire inflation systems

October 27th, 2011

Trailer Talk blog by Tom Berg, Senior Editor, Heavy Duty Trucking

Tires are expensive and prices keep rising, so they’re worth protecting by keeping them properly inflated. That’s not easy with a large fleet’s trailers, which can be scattered around the country and don’t often pass through its inspection and maintenance stations. That’s the situation with Werner Enterprises, which has decided to equip all of its 24,000 vans with the Meritor Tire Inflation System by P.S.I. About 3,900 Wabash National trailers have the automatic system so far, and a steady retrofitting operation is under way on the rest.

The decision to go with the Pressure Systems International product “was not a quickie,” says Dwayne Haug, vice president of maintenance. He first heard about it in the early 1990s, and he and other executives pondered it off and on as the company’s operations were changing. By 2009, “We had pockets of trailers all over, and the trailer ratio was climbing” to support customers’ needs for spotting and Werner’s hook-and-drop operation. The ratio of trailers to tractors is now more than 3 to 1, and when a driver hooked onto a trailer there was no telling where its tires’ inflation was or if he’d be able and willing to check them and pump them up if need be….

…”We were a little bit scared of retrofitting ‘em,” he said. “We couldn’t tax our shops, which were already busy.” So Werner hired Velociti, a firm specializing in installations of various technologies on many types of equipment. [continue]

Understanding Installation & Deployment Series, Pt. 2

July 23rd, 2011

“Think about what you don’t see” – Deryk Powell

As seen in our introductory article to this Understanding Installation & Deployment Series with the help of Deryk Powell, COO of Velociti, installation and deployment costs on a digital out of home network or interactive technology can take between 10-25% of the total cost of the project. That is a big window, representing a large difference between 10″ and 25%. It can get worse if not properly planned. Though we cringe, some have seen installation costs cripple their projects.

The first part of any technology deployment is the site survey, says Powell. A site survey is a review of the details involved to actually placing physical technology inside (or outside) of a location. It is crucial to the understanding of what will be required and to create a formal time frame thus setting expectations.

There are two types of site surveys, explains Powell. “First, there is the conceptual: what is our objective? Who is our audience? Where is the traffic? This site survey is attended by a combination of people, such as marketers.” It really comes from the moment of conception of the project that is based on the function of the place where it is to be installed. Digital out of home and digital signage projects are communications efforts to reach people, if they do not see or interact with it, the screens may as well be pointed at the sky since aliens might be more likely to view it.

The second type of site survey is the physical survey. “The physical is much easier to do,” notes Powell, “a field engineer goes in, and in understanding the conceptual idea, comes back with recommendations.” It also doesn’t take very long, with Powell stating that “a big box store can be surveyed in a day without any issue, even for 40 or 50 screens.” When you look at the timeline and total outlay of capital of a digital signage project, “the site survey is the cheapest part.”

From an immediate standpoint, “If you don’t know what is above the ceiling, you can’t hang things there. What types of damage would be caused?” Without reliable information regarding mounting, enclosures, wiring, and connectivity, no time table can be established.

Moreover, the physical site survey provides benefits for the entire lifetime of the technology network, since a properly-surveyed place will have fewer problems crop up over the long term. “The value of the site survey extends through the life of the digital signage,” says Powell.

If a network operator chooses to forgo the physical site survey, they might want to check into the costs of constantly repairing their technology, or the cost of an exploded water pipe splashing all over a retail technology outlet… in business those who risk a lot stand to gain much, but they better be more prepared to lose.
