THE CHALLENGE
Sentinel was looking to improve fleet performance and driver safety by installing four different aftermarket technology solutions throughout its entire fleet. This would entail retrofitting existing trucks as well as installing products on new vehicles coming off the production line at OEM facilities. Sentinel selected DriveCam, Peoplenet, Iteris and Doran Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems, which not only needed to be installed and calibrated to operate properly on their own, but to interface with each other as well. In order to minimize the vehicle downtime and ensure proper communication between devices, Sentinel needed a deployment solution that could combine the myriad of scopes on vehicles Sentinel operates across the country.

THE SOLUTION
Sentinel contacted Velociti Inc., a global provider of technology deployment services headquartered in Kansas City, Kan. Velociti’s experience working with large fleets and OEM facilities, combined with its team of full-time technicians, expertly trained on installing various technologies, made them a natural choice for Sentinel’s specific needs.

The Initial phase of Sentinel’s projects focused on installing all four products on new vehicles rolling off the assembly line. Sentinel leased a facility near the OEM factory where Velociti dedicated two technicians to maintain weekly productivity to match the build schedule. Velociti was able to complete this phase in two weeks.

Phase two, which began in April 2012, involves retrofitting 200 existing trucks across the country. The retrofit involves various combinations of the four hardware platforms, so Velociti’s dedicated project management team built a detailed schedule to identify which units were needed at which locations, matched to hardware vendors’ inventory and meticulously planned routes to maximize productivity.
